CUBADUPA

Since 2019, CubaDupa and Nonstop Solutions have teamed up to minimise waste at New Zealand’s largest outdoor arts and music festival. Together, we achieved an impressive 78.5% resource recovery rate in 2024, diverting 3.5 tonnes of waste from landfill at Wellington's iconic street festival.

Pōneke came alive with a festival of colour, art, music, theatre dance, food, and thousands of artists—all at CubaDupa.

TWO DAY STREET FESTIVAL

For an open street festival of this scale, where managing waste can be especially challenging, this result is a huge win for event sustainability.

In addition to resource recovery, efforts to reduce overall waste generation were successful, with 600kg less waste produced than expected.

Successful key initiatives have included the introduction of reusable cups and encouraging attendees to bring their own reusable bags and drink bottles, contributing to the festival’s continued commitment to environmental responsibility.

Reuse Initiatives introduced by CubaDupa for 2024!

CubaDupa is leading the way in major street festival sustainability with the support of reuse initiatives in 2024. Cuba Dupa 2024 featured reusable cups, reducing single-use waste, and a creative screen printing station using second-hand clothing. These initiatives not only cut down on waste but also encourage festival-goers to embrace circularity and give new life to preloved items.
