What we now know as Nonstop Solutions started off as a group of passionate individuals who were willing to volunteer their time to minimise event waste. Vanessa Rushton, along with Hannah Macintosh , Renee Rushton and James Coyle, joined forces to tackle the waste issues at Newtown Festival in 2012. Each year they increased their efforts and progress, bringing in more people to help - in particular operations lead Ben Phillips, going on to win awards for their work.
Over time, as awareness of the benefits of their services grew, Vanessa, Sheldon Levet, Stephanie Page and Karina McCallum founded Wellington Waste Managers (WWM) in 2018. Societal issues with waste production were becoming more apparent and topical, with a growing demand from audiences for greener events. A dedicated solution was needed to address the magnitude of waste going to landfill from events. After the first summer season Karina Mcallum took over as Operations Manager, and grew the operations team. From 2018 to 2021, WWM worked with events like Newtown Festival, CubaDupa and Round the Bays, diverting a total of 16,252kg and averaging a diversion rate of 72%.
